Metric W/M rating compares 1 m³ with 1 metric tonne (1,000 kg); they are alternative freight billing bases, not physically equal units. Many logistics companies instead configure a lower kg-per-CBM ratio from their container volume and weight allowance. A 40HQ holds ~68 CBM with a max payload ~28,400 kg = ~418 kg/CBM, yet many operators apply under 400 kg/CBM. Always confirm the exact charging ratio with your forwarder.
